PLEASE COME! This is the cry that EGM workers all over the world hear. The cries come from childrens workers who are desperate for training in their cities and churches. They so want to reach the children in their communities with the life changing message of Jesus Christ, but need the tools to know how to effectively do so.
EGM Partners with national leaders around the world to develop innovative trainings. The goal of these trainings is to develop Model Childrens Workers. A Model Children's Worker is characterized by a desire to see children transformed in Christ through His Church. In Deuteronomy 6, God sets forth instructions to the people of Isreal on how to raise up the next generation to follow Him. We believe that there are five elements found in this passage.
ο Relationship: Ministry to children begins with the children's workers' heart. As they love God, that love flows through them to the children. As they live according to God's commandments, their example teaches the children. Relationship is the foundation of their ministry. ο Truth: Model Children's Workers teach the Bible to children. The truth of Scripture is most effectively taught, not when children's workers repeat a traditional story word for word as they themselves learned it or when they teach straight from the curriculum, but rather, when the Bible itself is read, studied and practically applied to their lives. ο Discussion: Many children are taught as if the Bible is a collection of stories having no connection to their everyday lives. Through an open and honest dialogue, Model Children's Workers help children understand the Scripture as more than a story. They discuss with the children how the Bible applies to them individually and personally. ο Experience: Teaching should be intertwined with what children experience every day. Model Children's Workers create an activity that takes learning past a cognitive exercise and into an actual experience. Children need to experience the feelings connected to the objective of the lesson. Within the learning process, talking and hearing are valuable, but ultimately, it is the experience that has the most lasting impact. ο Response: The Word of God should affect what a child does with his hands. It should affect how a child thinks with his mind. No child should leave church not knowing how he can personally respond to the Word of God in the way he thinks and in what he does in his day to day life. Model Children's Workers give children practical opportunities to respond to the Word of God. Teacher Training in Action Through this training, teachers go back to their churches and children's lives begin to change. Here is a story about a trainer whose changed life transformed the children around her. Vasti saw how this model really changed the life of a child in her classroom. Read her story here.
